Deck Painting & Restoration
Deck Painting & Restoration in Cairns
Timber decks in Cairns get punished. Six months of sun bleaches them grey, then the wet season lifts the grain and lets mould in. A deck that looks past it is usually just neglected, not finished.
We clean, sand, repair and recoat decks, stairs, balustrades and screening — in a clear or coloured decking stain, an oil, or a solid deck paint depending on how the timber has aged.

How it runs
Our process, step by step
- 01
Assess the timber
We check the species, the existing coating and the condition of the boards and framing before quoting.
- 02
Clean and treat
Deck wash and mould treatment, then a full dry-out.
- 03
Sand
Sanded back so the new coating soaks into timber instead of sitting on old finish.
- 04
Repair
Fixings, loose boards and any rot dealt with before coating.
- 05
Coat
Multiple coats of stain, oil or deck paint, with drying time between each.
Preparation
Sanding is the whole job on a deck. Any coating applied over grey, weathered fibres bonds to fibres that are already letting go, which is why so many recoats peel within a season. We take it back to clean timber first, every time.
Products we use
We choose between penetrating decking oils, coloured stains and solid deck paints based on the timber and how much sun the deck gets. Oils and stains keep the grain and are easy to top up; solid paints give better cover on boards that are already patchy.
Built for the tropics
Full tropical sun will fade any deck coating, and the wet season will find any board that holds water. We recommend a maintenance coat every one to two years on exposed decks, which is far cheaper than a full sand-back every few years.
