Residential Painting

House Painters in Cairns

Pete's team paints houses right across Cairns — a single room, a full interior, or the whole outside of the house. Most of our work is repaints on homes that have copped a decade of sun, rain and salt air, so we spend as much time on preparation as we do with a brush in hand.

You get a detailed written quote before we start, the same painters on site each day, and a finish that is checked over with you before we pack up.

Sound familiar?

What this service fixes

  • Chalky, faded render and weatherboards that have lost their colour
  • Peeling and flaking paint on eaves, fascias and window frames
  • Mould and mildew coming back on shaded southern walls
  • Patchy DIY paintwork and colour changes that never quite covered
  • Filler cracks, nail pops and scuffed skirtings through the interior
  • Tired kitchens and bathrooms that only need paint, not a renovation

What's included

  • Full site protection — drop sheets, masking and covered floors
  • Pressure clean or sugar soap wash of all surfaces
  • Scraping, sanding, filling and caulking where needed
  • Spot priming or full prime coats on bare and repaired areas
  • Two finish coats as standard on walls, ceilings and trims
  • Daily tidy up and a final walkthrough with you before we leave

How it runs

Our process, step by step

  1. 01

    On-site quote

We come and look at the job, measure up and talk through colours, finishes and access. You get an itemised quote in writing.

  2. 02

    Booking and prep

We agree on start dates, confirm colours, and set up protection before a single tin is opened.

  3. 03

    Surface preparation

Wash, scrape, sand, fill and prime. This is the part that decides how long the job lasts.

  4. 04

    Painting

Cut in and roll or spray, two coats as standard, with each coat allowed to cure properly.

  5. 05

    Final check

We walk the job with you, fix anything you're not happy with, and clean up after ourselves.

Preparation

Preparation is where a paint job is won or lost. On a Cairns exterior that means washing off the mould and salt, scraping back anything lifting, sanding edges flat so you can't see the old paint line, filling cracks properly and priming bare timber or render before the first finish coat. Skipping any of that saves a day and costs you years.

Products we use

We use the ultra-premium Taubmans range and are a Taubmans-accredited applicator, which means we can get the right product in the right quantity when we need it and we have direct access to their technical team for the tricky questions. We'll walk you through colours, sheen levels, trim options and aftercare, and if you're painting to sell we'll tell you which colours tend to do well.

Built for the tropics

Cairns is hard on paint. High humidity slows drying, wet season storms drive water into any gap you leave, and UV chews through cheap exterior coatings. We plan exteriors around the forecast, allow longer recoat times through the wet, and choose products rated for tropical exposure rather than whatever is on special.

Good questions

Residential Painting questions

Timber exteriors here generally need repainting every 7 to 10 years. Render, fibro and masonry hold up longer because they don't move as much with the weather. North and west walls that take the afternoon sun usually go first, so it's worth booking an inspection before the whole house is due.

Both. Plenty of our work is a single room, a hallway, or a set of ceilings. There's no minimum size we'll quote on.

It depends on the floor. Refinished timber needs curing time that can hold the whole job up, and a sander can nick freshly painted skirtings. Doing floors first risks the trims; doing paint first risks the floor. Tell us the plan and we'll fit in around the rest of the trades.

Yes. Most modern interior paints are already low VOC, and we can specify non-VOC products if anyone in the house is sensitive to fumes.

Almost never. We work room by room, keep the house liveable, and pack the site down each afternoon.
